1.Eligible User All UIC staff, students and guests are eligible to apply for a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) access account. 2.WLAN Coverage Area(Last Updated on Wednesday, 13 January)
3.Services and Responsibilities3.1. ITSC shall be solely responsible for the operation and management of WLAN infrastructure in the campus. It includes the frequency allocation and coordination of the use of class-licensed radio spectrum within UIC campus. 3.2. Class-licensed radio frequency bands at 2.4 GHz(ISM) and 5.7 GHz shall be reserved in the wireless data network services. Any third parties to deploy systems in these frequency bands at UIC campus is not permitted unless it has been approved by ITSC. 3.3. In cases where specific devices are actually causing interference and disrupting the wireless network service, ITSC reserves the right to restrict the use of all unauthorized class licensed radio devices in campus buildings and all outdoor spaces. Such action will normally be taken only after attempts to resolve the interference by other methods (eg. Frequency allocation, or power management) have failed. 3.4. WLAN support IEEE802.11a/b/g standards and can be upgraded to support 802.11n, support multiple wireless client devices such as notebook computers, PDA, WIFI mobile phone, and Apple MAC system, wireless Internet access. Note: PDA and WIFI phones must to be able to support 802.1X authentication, Web Portal authentication is not supported in our WLAN. 3.5. ITSC reserves the right to restrict the bandwidth of the WLAN but will ensure the stability and availability of WLAN access. 3.6. ITSC will not ensure the WLAN stability is as good as the Wired Network; it is because the environmental factors can highly affect the WLAN performance. 3.7. ITSC shall be able to monitor and troubleshoot each individual access point's performance status in order to ensure the stability of the WLAN. 3.8. ITSC shall assist users in connecting their wireless devices into the campus WLAN. 3.9. All campus WLAN users' access accounts are managed and monitored by ITSC. 3.10. ITSC shall be responsible for and enforce regulation to ensure the security of the campus WLAN. It will require each user to authenticate to the network before network access is granted at the start of each session. 3.11. All user login time, place and verification information shall be recorded and monitored by ITSC. 3.12. ITSC reserved the right to terminate any unauthorized access account to protect the security of the WLAN. 3.13. All the equipments and devices used in the campus wireless network shall be operated within the guideline and recommendation where exposition of emitted radio frequency is safe to human. 4.User Responsibilities4.1. Users must be responsible for the maintenance of their personal wireless equipment such as notebook computer, mobile phone. ITSC will only assist in the wireless access connection to their equipment. 4.2. Users must ensure the access areas are under the WLAN coverage area and the access equipment must support 802.1X authentication. ITSC will not be responsible for any failure of accessing the WLAN is due to incompatible authentication. 4.3. Any unauthorized wireless router or device for transmission or receiving of data is not permitted in campus WLAN. 4.4. Any wireless devices such as microware or cordless phones shall be placed away from the wireless AP (access point). In case of the high power device such as 1000W electromagnetic oven or 100mW coreless phone is used, please inform ITSC immediately for necessary technically adjustment to avoid interference to the WLAN signal. 4.5. All eligible users must apply for a wireless access account via ITSC, and can only be accessed to the network from the provided user account. 4.6. Users shall not transfer any information related to their account, IP or password to other third party. ITSC reserves the right to terminate the unauthorized access account to protect the security of the wireless network. 4.7. Any user, division and unit shall not deploy their own produced wireless systems because of the security, consistency and interference problems that would entail. 4.8. Users shall carefully handle their personal and confidential data, ITSC will not be responsible for any leaking of private data due to their negligence during the wireless access. 4.9. Using of the campus WLAN to perform any illegal activities is absolutely prohibited.
5.Access Hours Limitation and ChargesIn order to avoid any abusing WLAN access as well as to reduce the campus burden of WLAN maintenance expenditure, ITSC would like to implement a charging policy for WLAN access user. 5.1. Each student will be free to enjoy 20 hours of wireless Internet access (equivalent to 60-hour wired Internet access) and 140 hours of wired Internet access time per semester. 5.2. ¥2 per hour will be charged when the 20 hours free access limitation exceeds. Students need to visit ITSC to top up the accessing hours. The charging fee is subject to change with the approval from Executive Committee of Administrative Affairs (ECAA). 5.3. Any administrative affair, student or campus activity that require the campus WLAN access must inform ITSC in advance, the charging policy will not apply. 5.4. Any UIC invited visitor or guest who like to access the campus WLAN must also submit the application 5.5. Any administrative affair, student or campus activity that require the campus WLAN access must inform ITSC in advance, the charging policy will not apply. Remarks: The above rules and regulations including the charging fee will be reviewed at least once in each semester and adjusted accordingly to the user requirement.
